Back in May I took part in a plein air event in Buxton. It’s a bit of a journey from where I live but as I’m unable to make Pintar Rapido (another plein air event) in London this year I thought I’d make the trip and give this event a go.
Having travelled up on a Friday night after the day job I had all day on Saturday to paint from a randomly selected location. The spot I pulled out of the hat looked down Hilltop View and encompassed trees, buildings, people and cars so plenty to take in and try to capture.
The day itself was bit grey, wet and cold for my liking but I enjoyed getting to know the place. Buxton is a lovely little Spa town which I’d like to re-visit in the future.
At the end of the day I was not too pleased with the result but the rules of the competition meant I was able to make additions and adjustments in the studio before sending the finished painting to the Green Man Gallery in Buxton.
My Hilltop View painting – and all the other artists work – can be seen at The Green Man Gallery from 1 July to 31 July.
